There was an "activity" we did a while ago that has really stuck with me.
Our entire project (about 45 of us) went into a room without any windows. The staff shut off the lights and closed the door. The room was so dark that we couldn't even see our hands if we put them in front of our face.
One staff member started talking about people who do not believe. He told us that they are constantly in the dark, and when they stumble they do not even know why. If we were to get up and walk around that room, we would be tripping constantly and not even know what we were tripping on.
Even though we were sitting in the dark, we knew that if we reached out, there would be someone next to us. We had the comfort of knowing that we were not alone in the dark. However, to someone who does not believe, they are not able to reach out for that person next to them. Just hearing that broke my heart. It would be so terrible to have to sit in that dark room all alone.
Then, one staff member lit a candle. This one candle provided enough light to be able to see everyone's faces clearly. It even gave us enough light to move around the room if we needed to. They then proceeded to light a couple more candles. It was so amazing how light the room became.
We were told that, as believers of Christ, we were lights in the dark, and that it is our job to spread that light to people who are in the dark.
That "activity" has really stuck with me. Especially the part about how I could have reached out at any point and held onto the person next to me.
Other than doing that, I have been working. I really love my job here. I've been doing more waitressing than front desk. Its so awesome to get to talk to the people visiting here and get to learn their story.
I got my hair cut...finally. Its now trimmed and I have bangs again...and it was free! My friend, Ferrell, cut it for me. She then recorded a new voice mail message thing on my phone, so you guys should call me and hear how awesome it is (its a song!).
Oh, this verse has really been affecting me lately. I think it is everything I needed to hear:
1 Kings 19: 11-12 -
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
